Abstract:The principle of military objective is one of the basic principles of international humanitarian law. It is the legal basis to judge whether the targeted object can be attacked as a legitimate object. In the context of outer space armed conflict, military objective can be initially interpreted as limited to those objects which by their na? ture, location, purpose or use make an effective contribution to outer space military action and whose total or partial destruction, capture or neutralization, in the circumstances ruling at the time, offers a definite military ad? vantage. In practice, the characteristics of outer space armed conflicts make the principle of military objective confronted with many difficulties in its application, such as the lack of science and technology and legal means to identify the nature of the outer space objects and its functions, most of the outer space objects are facing the risk of military attacks, the principle of military objective is in conflict with other rules of international law, etc. China needs to properly develop its military forces in outer space in light of the application of the principle of mili? tary objectives and problems arising from it, attach importance to maintaining the safety of its space equipment, and promote the process of outer space security governance under the guidance of the concept of Community with Shared Future for Mankind.
