Philip Roth is one of the most influential writers in contemporary American literary circle.His fiction have many different subjects and take various writing forms.Roth’s canonical status in the US owes to not only his endless efforts in writing and his exquisite skills,but also the continuous interests, criticism and affirmation of the critics.During the past five decadess,cholars have conducted researches from the aspects of form and contents of Roth’s works.This paper summarizes and sorts out chronologically the Roth studies in the English-speaking countries from the perspectives of identity,influence and comparative studies,art of humor and satire and narrative techniques.The current Roth studies abroad cover a wide range of fields, and have gone far beyond researches on a single work or subject,presenting interdisciplinary and diversified research trends.
