Abstract:There is little literature studied the impact of the strateoy of the central rising on the overall opening-up degree of the central region and its regional heterogeneity as well as the intrinsic mechanism. In order to deepen the existing research, based on the panel data of provinces from 1998 to 2014 in China, using the Propensity Score Matching-Difference in Differences method, this paper studies the effect of the strategy of the central rising on the degree of opening-up, and focuses on the regional heterogeneity and intrinsic mechanism. The results show that: 1) The strategy of the central rising can lead to a significant positive impact on the opening-up of the central region. Benefited from the strategy, the proportion of import and export can be increased by 0.94% per year, and the proportion of FDI is an average annual increase of 0.39%. 2) There is a typical regional heterogeneity for the strategy of the central rising to the central six provinces. Benefit from the strategy of the central rising, the proportions of import and export of Shanxi,Anhui,Jiangxi and Henan are improved. The proportions of FDI of Anhui, Jiangxi and Henan, are promoted significantly due to the strategy of the central rising. 3) The strategy of the central rising increases the proportion of import and export through the increase of urbanization rate, human capital and per capita capital stock. It also produces a positive contribution to the proportion of FDI through GDP growth rate, urbanization rate, human capital and per capita capital stock.
