Abstract:The authority is an important factor in reform process. In the context of the new public management movement, the United States began to reform tenure system, with its operation mainly guided by the academic authority. In terms of the development trend, the tenure will be continuously reduced and the competition and power balance will become the fundamental features. Meanwhile, the system standardization, the stakeholder participation and the status of teaching scholarship will be increased, becoming the mainstream in the near future. In the current situation, perfecting the faculty appointment procedures and building a flexible promotion model by drawing lessons from the tenure reform of American Universities are of vital importance in pushing the faculty employment system in China’s universities.
