Characters portrayed in Boris Vian's writing are not able to escape from death, which is closely associated with Vian's health problem and his experience of wartime as well. This paper investigates the phenomena of death, with the hope of bringing insights into Vian's abhorrence of war and disappointment at reality. Influenced by Freud's theory and Pataphysique, death in Vian's writing indicates a brand new start rather than the end of life. Discussions on this issue contribute to a better understanding of the social significance underlying his work.
