As a“false social consciousness”, ideological illusion is a distorted reflection of social reality. It has the characteristics of being illusory, concealing, dependent, sustaining and transparent. The discourse of beautifying the“996”working day system is to demonstrate the rationality of“996”from the perspectives that“996” is beneficial to individual learning and promotion, shaping a good corporate culture, helping employees to work safely, assuming necessary responsibilities and winning competition with“others”. From the perspective of ideological illusion, this paper examines the recent glorification of“996”in China and finds that it is a typical ideological illusion. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen people’s ability of seeing through illusion by discovering “signs”, tolerating“the others”, revealing emptiness and firmly following the guidance of scientific theory.
